Front Panel Sound+Mic Doesn't Work

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to get linux to use the headset plugged into the front panel of my desktop. It works for me in Windows 7, so I know that it's not a hardware problem.

I've tried:

• Uninstalling pulseaudio
• Going into alsamixer and ensuring that the volume is not way down (or muted)

I am running:

• Mint 12 Gnome (cinnamon) x64
• ASUS P5E Motherboard (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5E/)
• ASUS Xonar DG Soundcard (http://www.asus.com/Multimedia/Audio_Cards/Xonar_DG/)
• Antec 300 (http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=24&pid=2)
• Plantronics Gamecom 307 (http://www.plantronics.com/us/product/gamecom-307)

Having similar problems. Speakers work ok with my Xonar DG card, but that's it! After weeks of trying, I cannot enable the mic on this card or the mic on my webcam. It appears to be a kernel issue so I guess we'll have to wait until it's fixed. Unfortunately I am still having this issue with Mint 13 on kernel 3.2.
