Can't get CD/DVD Drive working

Ok have done a bit of searching and it seems this card just doesn't play with linux, ubuntu linux at least. There are several posts on the ubuntu forums going back to 2008 stating similar problems with this card, namely that drives attached to it are just not seen even though the card itself is. This being an add in card, there should be a setup available by pressing a hotkey at boot, you may want to investigate the way things are setup in that. Other than that the only suggestions I can make are to switch the optical drives to the other IDE connector on your systemboard or try a different card. Good luck.

Since my 2nd/backup hd is taking up the only available ide controller, I can't switch to an ide controller for the 2 cd/dvd drives.

Isn't there any way to make this work?

if you have a spare sata port, then use a pata-to-sata converter on your backup hd, then your 2 ancient DVD's can go on the (now) free pata port. Otherwise just use one DVD whichever is best) as the second device on the pata port.

If you do really have a spare sata port, consider a new drive, they are very cheap.

Are cd/dvd rom drives sata compatible these days?

They have become the norm. Getting harder to find a pata drive these days.

If your old drive(s) is(are) in good condition it is always worth putting in a usb external enclosure.

I have the same issue. The DVD drive is invisible with Linux Mint.

I rarely use DVD/CD anymore, so I don't know if it worked under Ubuntu, either. But it works fine on Windows.

The DVD drive is a very common piece of hardware. I thought Linux was over this sort of thing.....

Using LM-13 on a iMac
I downloaded an*.iso file and burt this to a dvd. Wanted 'live boot' from image, no luck, dould eject dvd, said something about like 'null disk... '. Re installed LM-13, no problem, after install disk was ejected.

I wanted to get a file from a backup disk, no luck. opening the window 'computer' showed the cd-drive with a blank cd (I knew it contained data). I ve spebt too much time trying to solve this, following advice of others.

I've copied some file and search results:
1. /etc/fstab

2.the mount comand:

mount: can't find /media/cdrom in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

It makes no difference to the outcome of the mount command if etc/fstab has /dv/sr0 or /dev/sg0 (line 18). MOunting as rrot makes no difference.

In the past I've never had this problem.
Some succinct advise would be much appreciated.

Hi,

You should check if your CD/DVD drive is not connected to a SATA3 port.
I had the same issue that my CD/DVD/BD drive was not working. I had it connected to a SATA3 port.
After I connected it to a SATA2 port, everything worked fine.

I don't think this is the problem. When I installed LM-13 when it came out, the crdrive worked perfectly. I have done nothing to the hardware.
When I boot LM=13 I get the message: an error while loading the cdrom (or words to that effect); clicking S continues the bootup.

Just installed latest version on Linux Mint XFCE and I'm quite happy with it. However I'm going on vaccation for a while now and I won't have any internet so I thought I would watch some old dvd movies and series on the trip. However I can't seem to get my cd/dvd drive working. It won't even open when I press the button, the eject command doesn't work either. I even screwed the dirve out and reinserted it again. It worked just fine on windows, so I suspect it is some kind of driver issue? I have only used Mintfor a couple of days so I'm afraid I don't know much on how to fix it.

I'ts a laptop so I can't test it on another port but the drive does not even show up in the device tree.
