On Monday I bought my girlfriend her first computer. A little ASUS netbook - Eee PC model X101CH-BRN007W. It didn't come with any sort of operating system apart from the Express Gate Cloud, so naturally I've installed GNU/Linux for her to learn on.
The problem I have been unsuccessful in finding any solution since Monday, searching ASUS site, Ubuntu site, and here too is how to find a suitable video driver to increase the screen resolution from 800x600 to the 1024x600 that is apparently possible using other operating systems.
I have downloaded and installed linuxmint-12-gnome-dvd-32bit.iso, and it's running on her new machine reasonably well already since the second attempt*. Updates are done now too.
The hardware specifications, as much as I can get from the BIOS and the System Settings --> Info are:
ASUS Eee PC X101CH-BRN007W - ACPI BIOS
Bios Version 0501
Build Date 01/06/2012 ie. Jan 6th.
EC Firmware Version EPCE-022
Memory: 2.0 GiB
Processor: Intel Atom CPU N2600 @ 1.60Ghz x 4
Graphics: Vesa: Intel XX Graphics
Experience: Fallback
VGA Controller: Intel Cedarview Integrated Graphic Controller (rev 09) (prof-if 00 [VGA controller])
Apologies if that is not sensible information to provide, but if so, please reply if you may know how I might obtain the correct drivers for the apparently built-in video adaptor so that I might achieve the 1024x600 resolution.

* Regarding the installation, the one failure I had was at the webcam/photo part, where the 600 pixel vertical resolution did not allow for any visible onward button. Second time around, just required hitting TAB once or twice and then Enter, and all went on from there, but it was a bit confusing at first with such a little screen. Other than that, smooth as silk.
