SoIvd sort of prob mouse buttons stop wkng Mt Julia

Hello
I have recently reinstalled Mint 10 Julia Gnome on my PC as the only operating system on the system. My PC is an aging Pentium 4. It worked well for a year or more using Mint Julia. Gnome version.
It the old barrel PS2 mouse and keyboard outputs. It also has several USBs. I used wired keyboard and mouse in the USB sockets. Then I used a wireless Logitech MK320 Keyboard and mouse. Still worked well. Then Used a Microsoft Wireless keyboard and mouse. This is when the error started. It all worked well till about a minute after I logged in, The the mouse buttons stopped working on anything.

I reinstalled Mint Julia and now it happens frequently and intermittently on all mice and keyboards I attach. These include:
1. Logitech MK320
2. PS2 Keyboard and usb mouse.
3. PS2 wireless keyboard and mouse (MN: Y-RC14) plugged into the ps2 sockets.

All sometimes work and sometimes don't. Today I am using the old PS2 Keyboard and usb mouse (yesterday they did not work. Yesterday I used the Logitech MK320. I I've tried them in alone or in combination.

The problem only occurs after I have logged in. I don't recall it happening when I used Mint from a DVD.

I'm not sure what to do next. I plan to use Mint as my main computer but still use Windows. It looks really good on my new big screen. I'm just a bit confused.
Hope you can come up with some ideas.
Thanks

Jeff

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hi
I tried a few more things. I found an old PS2 mouse and plugged it into the PS2 socket while the keyboard was in its PS2 socket. No luck the screen froze x2 attempts.
Went back to the Keyboard in a PS2 socket an wired mouse in the usb. It worked once then when I tried the next time the screen froze x3 attempts. The last time I was filling this in when it crashed. It has become too frustrating to use.

My ideal solution would be to buy a new wired usb keyboard and mouse, plug them in and use the system. but don't know if they would work. I've got to prefer Mint to Windows 7.

I would like to have given details on my system. When I get it working again is there a place in Mint I could copy the details?

Thanks Jeff

Hi All
I seem to be talking to myself so willl wrap this up.
I bought a wired usb keyboard and wired usb mouse. Plugged them into a ifferent usb sockets than used before. First couple of tries crashed the computer. then Tried using DVD with linux distros. First one crashed. second one had 4 distros the first being Fedora 14. Keyboard and mouse did not work on the menu to select distro so downloaded Fedora 14.
After a couple more goes when booted it seems to work when in the operating system.
It has worked a few times after booting into the system.
Lessons I can't help much but this is what I think:
1. There is something in my computer tell the system to look for the keyboard and mouse in the Ps2 sockets. If I knew how to change it I would.
2. When something does not work try the same thing a few time sometimes it learns.
3.There is someting about Linux that means that sometimes you can use the mouse to move the pointer but clicking does not work. It happened on a couple of mice? in different Distros.

Hope some on finds this helpful.
I'm going to see if I am learn Ferora till i fond out how to get the mouse or keyboard working to scroll down to Mint 10, but will still check whqat is happening here.
All the Best
