SP2208WFP webcam works with Live CD but not after install

Postby bconley on Fri May 04, 2012 11:48 pm

This is odd. When I run Lisa from the live cd the webcam that is built into my Dell SP2208WFP monitor works like a charm. However, after I install to the hard drive it won't work. Cheese tells me that there is no device. Does anyone have any sort of explanation as to why this would happen? Is there a way that I can copy files or something to make it work once it's on the HD? I'm really confused.

Thank you!

Open a terminal, enter the following code then see if if your camera works
Code: Select all
sudo modprobe uvcvideo

If it works then doesn't after a reboot, open /etc/modules as administrator and add uvcvideo on a new line at the end of the file.

remoulder, I ran the sudo command then tried it with cheese and it still couldn't find it. I went ahead and added the line in the modules file just in case but that didn't do it either. Any other suggestions? I just don't understand why it would work perfectly with the live disk but not once it's installed to the HD. Thank you!!

I've found a way to get it to work. If I run: sudo rmmod uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo two or three times then it works. I guess my question now is how do I make it work all the time without having to run the commands? It's not the end of the world but it would be helpful. Thank you!

BTW, these were run AFTER the command that I use to make it run. Hope that doesn't mess you up.
Here's what I get for lspci:
