[SOLVED] External USB Hard Drive won't mount in Mint 4.0

Postby evey on Thu Mar 06, 2008 1:06 am

UPDATE 2008.03.23
PROBLEM SOLVED
HAPPENED TO HAVE A FRIEND'S NEARLY IDENTICAL WD USB HD ON HAND
PLUGGED IT IN AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY
WHY?
IT HAD A SHORTER USB CABLE!
THE LONGER USB CABLE THAT CAME WITH MY UNIT WAS LOSING THE DATASTREAM
WHEN I USED MY FRIEND'S SHORTER CABLE ON MY WD HD, IT WORKED PERFECTLY TOO
THANKS TO THE READERS WHO OFFERED ADVICE ON MY PROBLEM
MUCH APPRECIATED!
HOPE THIS POST HELPS OTHERS

Have you tried pmount? Some external disks needs to manually be mounted...

It may help if you first disconnect the drive from XP using "Safely Remove Hardware" before connecting to Linux. This cured the problem when it happened to me. :)

Dear iironjade,

Thanks! I'll check to see if I did that without noticing. I don't think I did.
