Mouse and keyboard are not working

Hi, recently my mouse and keyboard have completely stopped working on mint 12. It's a white plastic MacBook. This means I cannot log on since both of my inputs are gone! The only thing I have been able to do is hold option to get the screen where I select the hard drive to boot from. The mouse works on this screen but once the log in screen comes up nothing works again. Does anyone has any suggestions on where to go from here (other than back to osx!)?

Seems to be almost the same issue as I am having recently, whereby my KB/Mouse dont work upon boot, I have to disconnect and reconnect the USB for it to work, only I can see you cant do this with a laptop
