USB to Parallel adaptor

Has anyone tried using an adapter such as this and have success printing ?

I have not done it myself but the chances are low regardless of the OS of the computer
USB is a serial connector while parallel is - well just that
There has to be some circuitry to do this
The reports I've seen are not encouraging (in Windows) and they are shipped with Windows drivers, so the use under Linux may be difficult, if possible...
