Disabling MTP (it's annoying and broken with Android phones)

Postby endoverendo on Fri Jun 29, 2012 8:00 pm

I develop software for Android phones and the newer items (e.g. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and later) connect as MTP devices. I'm frequently connecting and removing phones from the system throughout the day.

Any time I connect a phone, Banshee stops playing music and hangs for a bit. Or it starts up if it's not running. Also I receive an error message about not being able to lock the device.

I would like to either disable mount of MTP devices, remove MTP from the system altogether, or otherwise prevent this madness from occurring. I really don't have any interest whatsoever in transferring files using MTP, so disabling the whole works would be fantastic. Regrettably Banshee appears dependent on MTP and thus I can't simply remove the libraries.

This is happening on LinuxMint 13, x86-64, Cinnamon, up-to-date.

Thanks for any help/suggestions!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I was able to do this by changing the default settings for the system.

Menu -> System Settings -> Details -> Removeable Media
Then check the box "Never prompt or start programs on media insertion"

Hope that helps!
