My Mint is randomly hanging :-(

Hi,

I don't know what causes it but Mint sometimes hangs on my desktop, with no reproduceable pattern. Sometimes it can work for days without problems, sometimes it will hangs twice in a row. When hanging, opened applications seems to continue running (for example if I'm listenning music, it will continue to play), I can still move the mouse cursor around, but nothing will respond on screen, no click action, no keyboard key will work, ... The only way to get out of it is to reboot !
I already found some similar comments concerning Ubuntu but it seems that noone has brought an explication yet, even less a way to avoid it.

Does anyone here know how to deal with it ?

Thank you Julien, but I didn't find anything abnormal in my syslog :-\ And people who get the same problem under Ubuntu also says that there is nothing in their syslog...

Do have any network especially nfs resources mounted at your box?
If, could it be that nautilus hangs?
does ctrl-ALT-F1 work and gives you a console?
