Postby gandhisifst on Thu Mar 27, 2008 3:03 am

I've been trying to get HDAPS installed on my laptop but i keep getting this error

sudo modprobe hdaps

FATAL: Error inserting hdaps (/lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/kernel/drivers/hwmon/hdaps.ko): No such device

i also tried to install tp_smapi, but i couldn't make kept getting this error:

Makefile:25: *** This driver requires kernel 2.6.19 or newer, and matching kernel sources. You may need to override KVER=2.6.22-14-generic or KSRC=/lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/source or KBUILD=/lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/build or MOD_DIR=/lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/kernel. Stop.

Did you install build essentials?

build-essentials, linux-source, linux-headers-`uname -r` are all at the latest version

And when you do
sudo modprobe hdaps

this is after some install of sorts?
The fact that the make for tp_smapi misidentifies the kernel makes me suspect it may not be for Ubuntu.
I thought Ubuntu used vanilla kernels, but perhaps not quite...

I've also been reading that there are problems with tp_smapi and hdaps and 2.6.22-14 generic

This may explain it - I think there's a newer kernel available in the repos

apt-get or better I think with mintUpdate - you set all levels to be visible
BUT - I did not find a new kernel - seems I was mistaken
To get it you probably have to edit sources list so all repos are active temporarily (don't know where a kernel may hide :))
There certainly is a newer kernel, if in the more or less normal repos leaves me uncertain now...
