Mint 13 - 32bit - Touchpad not working & no Wireless

Post by roadrash »

I have just installed Mint 13 on my Acer Extensa 5220 laptop after a sucessful trial of the live dvd. After installing to the hard drive the touchpad doesn't work as well as the wireless. These all worked perfectly using the live session. I did try adding the modprobe psmouse proto=imps to the /etc/rc.local file as suggested in another post to get touchpad working but it still didn't work. there is some more info added to the bottom of this post.
can someone help please

lspci from installed system outputs this:

A few other discoveries. For some reason the folder containing the modules in the installed system has a filename of 3.2.0-23-generic-pae whereas the same folder on the live session is the same but without the "-pae" (3.2.0-23-generic)
This is maybe a reason why when i type "sudo modprobe psmouse" I get a error that the file modules.dep doesn't exist. I tried renaming the folder to the correct name & then trying "sudo modprobe psmouse" again but I then get the error the psmouse file format is incorrect or something similar.
This the first time for me that a live session which I went on to install to the hard drive failed to work like this did.
I am currently running a live session all the time to see if I can help get this sorted for others who may have this problem.

Re: Mint 13 - Touchpad not working & no Wireless

Post by roadrash »

Please can someone help as this is my main laptop and I cannot use my main linux partition now unless i use a live session with a dvd. I had Ubuntu 12.04 working on it perfectly before I tried to put Mint on it.

Just to see what would happen, I also tried to install the Mint 13 KDE edition & it has exactly the same problem as the gnome version where everything is OK in the live session but very little hardware is detected and working after install. Just compare the output of the lspci command from the live & installed systems in previous post.
