can't see my hdmi tv in monitors

Hi all,

I'm shiny and new to Mint, just installed this evening. Moved from Ubuntu.

Mint Mate 13, Sony Vaio i5 laptop.

My panasonic tv is plugged in via hdmi and normally it would be visible in monitors and magically appear with an extended desktop (Ubuntu 11.10).

My graphics card is........nvidia GeForce 410M.......but appears to be functional.

I have dimmed the display through the nvidia x-server-settings (gui), so they are functioning. Plus I restarted back into Mint not the recovery console, unlike the last few attempts of getting the drivers in - Fedora, Suse & Kubuntu.

Could it still be the drivers or is there something staring me in the face that I haven't noticed?
