[solved] - Lenovo Y570 fan control

Postby relchabb on Wed Aug 22, 2012 2:07 am

I had linux mint 12 on my laptop for almost 8 month. I was coding some applications.

To test these applications, the laptop needs to run for months none stop. The point is that I do not want my laptop to roast.

My laptop is a Lenovo Y570. When the processor runs at 50% capacity, the temperature of the core jumps from 50 to 95. This does not happen while using windows.

I noticed that the processor fan is not working as it should. It is slow. While the fan on the side of the laptop is working great.

There are some solutions that will keep the fan running at full speed for the whole time. I do not want to shorten the life span of the fan, so I need it to be automated according to the core temp.

Did anyone face such a problem with a Lenovo? How was it solved?

I tried the fanCON app, but I got no results as it was not able to read or control the pwm value of the fans.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I got a partial solution. The fan mode can be controlled from Windows (I am dual booting with windows 7). It seems that when I changed the fan mode (from windows) in order to increase the fan speed, it also effected linux positively.

The same thing applies for the mode that keeps the battery half charged.

Still, I cannot find something that might control these options from linux.
