Lenovo A61e and sound

Postby mrsean2k on Wed Apr 09, 2008 9:02 am

First, apologies if this is a double post; I could swear I successfully posted this yesterday, but it isn't here or in my drafts folder.

I bough an Lenovo A61e for my brother and set it up dual-boot with Daryna KDE Community edition.

Just about perfect except that I couldn't get the sound to work out of the box.

I'm struggling a *bit* now as the PC is 160 miles away, but has anyone had success with this particular PC?

I thought I'd seen and perhaps even help solve a sound problem with this model, but I can't find anything
We need to know which sound chip.
Ask you brother to run
Code: Select all
lspci grep | audio

and post the result
If you search for a specific laptop you cannot be sure that the specs you find are correct

I will do, thanks.

I did search and follow a few solutions, but after 4 or 5 failures, I wanted to roll back to a known-state and approach it more rigorously. Should have noted all this stuff as I ran exactly that command myself. Tsk.

As a slight correction, it needed:

lspci | grep Audio

The output from lspci -v is:

You have
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia

A new one to me - I have to dig deeper
As a sidenote this would be the best command
Code: Select all
lspci | grep -i audio

Must remember that (-i makes it ignore case)

Ah, ok.

In the end, I asked my brother just to send the whole lot, and then decided to paste it intact as there seemed to be several related entries. Sorry if it took a bit of wading through.

That could be useful.

Aha,

From that thread:

================
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-generic & sudo reboot
================

did the trick and sound is now working like a champ.

Thanks to everyone for their help / pointers
