Nvidia driver v304.51 and Isadora

Postby monsieurpolo on Tue Oct 02, 2012 5:01 pm

Hello,

I have installed the newest Nvidia drivers (v304.51) for my GeForce 8400GS video card (using the .run file taken from nvidia) but it is not recognized by Nvidia X server settings. It is still showing v195 as the driver version.
I have tried using 'sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates' to no avail.
I get an error: gpg: Invalid option "--primary-keyring"

I am running LinuxMint 9 Isadora.
Is there an incompatibility between v304.51 and Isadora?
If not, how can I force X server to use v304.51 instead of v195?

Thank you for your help,
Polo

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Have you tried removing the distro's version before installing the one from Nvidia?

I have blacklisted Nouveau and uninstalled the distro's nvidia driver. The new Nvidia driver (V304.51) does install but does not get recognized.
still no luck...

Please don't take offense if these questions seem trifling, I have to ask. :-)

1) Did you drop down to runlevel 1 before running the installer?
2) What does cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version say?
3) Did you run nvidia-xconfig?

@ Jamesc359: I absolutely don't take offense. On the contrary, I appreciate your help greatly as I am far from the black-belt level at linux.

1) Did you drop down to runlevel 1 before running the installer?
not that I know. I switched to the console (ctrl+alt+F1), logged in, stop gdm and ran the nvidia installer.

2) What does cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version say?
it says: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 195.36.24
It is the distro version.
3) Did you run nvidia-xconfig?
yes I did

Any idea why this is happening?
Thank you for your help

I'm far from being an expert as well, but I try. :)

Anyways, my best guess is that the installer didn't over write the older files. Try dropping down to runlevel 1 and running the installer again. Make note of any errors you get.
