Mouse / touchpad help

Got an aspire one netbook running mint katya. Touchpad packed in the other night, checked out the forums for a fix, managed to get it going but only when power lead is disconnected, now using usb mouse which once again only works when power lead disconnected.......touchpad doesn't work at all now.

all ideas and suggestions duly appreciated.
