Which version of Mint are you using?
Main (Gnome), KDE, XFCE, Fluxbox, Debian...
I had issues under both Gnome and KDE, with different solutions...

So I just plugged my speaker cpu input pin a bit

cpu is the processor and if you poked something into it then your computer is stone dead...
Please post the output of lspci in a terminal
This may have to do with the sound chip
