The Problem:
The user hears no audio from the system. Previously, the audio could be heard by using the headphone socket or across the HDMI connection, but tinkering has stopped even this.
The Hardware:
The system is using the Linux Mint 14 Release Candidate, but the problem was present in the latest stable build of Linux Mint 13. The system itself is a Dell Inspiron 15z ultrabook.

I've tried more things than I can remember to put down, so I'm more than willing to answer any clarifying questions.
Any insights/suggestions/comments will be greatly appreciated .
