Support for Hot-Add RAM?

Does Mint 13 supports memory hot-add technology? I tried testing this in a VM by filling up all RAM and a good chunk of swap (to the point where performance started to get really bad) and then bumping the VM's RAM from 2 GB to 3 GB without rebooting the VM, but system monitor still showed 2 GB of RAM was available and performance was still terrible.

What VM software are you using to do this on the fly?
XEN, VMWare, VirtualBox?
