Connect to a Palm using the serial device doesn't work

Post by hoppel »

Hi,

the last days I tried several times to get my Palm m100 working under Mint and failed every time. I tried the pilot aplet and jpilot and every time it seemed as using the serial device wasn't possible.
Jpilot gives me the following error message:

Code: Select all

pi_bind error: /dev/ttS0 No such file or directory
Überprüfen Sie die serielle Schnittstelle und die Einstellungen (which means: check the serial device and its settings)
Exit-Status: SYNC_ERROR_BIND
Same message appears for /dev/ttS1. I also tried to use the Windows software from Palm in a Virtual Box Windows, but Virtual Box prevented me from activating the serial device.

Any ideas?

Ok, I checked some things and mastered one additional step - reading the manual ;-)
Anyway, although it looks better I'm still not able to work.
This is what I've done:
1.

Code: Select all

ln -s /dev/ttyS0 /dev/pilot
2.

Code: Select all

chmod 666 /dev/ttyS0
Now jpilot gives me the following error message:

Code: Select all

pi_bind error: /dev/pilot Invalid argument
Überprüfen Sie die serielle Schnittstelle und die Einstellungen (still the same...)
Exit-Status: SYNC_ERROR_BIN

Well, that't pretty complicated and I don't want to synchronize anything with Evolution because I use Thunderbird. And I also think it wouldn't work with it, too. Something seems to be wrong with my serial device....
