Texas Instruments PCI (TI-PCI) 6xx1/7xx1

This is how the Smart Card Reader is defined by HP on my (old) NC8230 laptop (Texas Instruments PCI (TI-PCI) 6xx1/7xx1 Cardbus (Media Card Reader)). I've used it successfully on 'Doze for years with the associated middleware and security certs. I've recently rebuilt on 32b Nadia and so far LOVE it using Cinnamon. I won't go back. I ran pcsc_scan, but it just sat there using the "plug and play...blah", not recognizing the built in reader. I successfully installed, configured and used an external USB smart card reader (SCR3310), so I have that as a back up.

Question: has anyone seen/tested this "Texas Instruments PCI (TI-PCI) 6xx1/7xx1 Cardbus (Media Card Reader)"? Default install will not pick it up and using coolkey, cackey, and/or pcsclite. I've been searching for days - not at the point of pulling out my hair since I have a solution - but more for - that lingering booger I just can't seem to pick.

I have exactly the same issue with the same laptop

Thank you in advance!
