Lenovo G580 and wifi

I'm thinking of buying a Lenovo laptop G580. does it have issues with wifi?

Are there other recommendations for an inexpensive laptop to run Mint 14 on?

I bought it yesterday and ran the live DVD Mint 14 and it found my wifi connection and I was able to log in the use wifi via the live DVD. Does that mean that once installed I should still see the wifi connections?

My concern is will Win 8 respond to setting bios to Legacy boot? Seems like it worked for him.

Vinoman, I have the same laptop and same set-up.

I can confirm that the wifi works fine once installed (although you may have to change drivers depending on how they perform for you, I'm using the Broadcom 'wl' ones).

The install is a bit more involved than just creating a partition and installing. In fact I wrote up exactly how I did it here > viewtopic.php?f=42&t=121912

I installed rEFInd to have a prettier front-end than grub, but it'll work as it is.

p.s. How do you find the touchpad in windows 8? I hate the way it works, way too sensitive and twitchy, random clicks you didn't makes etc.

I haven't had trouble with the touch pad. No more than any other laptop. If you type a lot, turn off the pad so your thumbs don't get in the way.

I may just install MInt 14 on the whole hdd, if it doesn't work.

I decided to delete Win 8 and install Mint 14 on my new Lenovo G580. The wifi was picked up in the live session and during the install and after the reboot the wifi connection stayed on. It runs great. No problems at all and didn't have to install any other drivers. So far so good.
