Disabling touchpad also disables keyboard

Hello,

I have this issue on my Acer 3820TG laptop. When using the fn key to disable the touch pad, the keyboard stops working as well until you restart the laptop. Using the keys to re enable the touch pad works, but the keyboard still doesn't work until the reboot.
