ok let me keep it simple and i hope this would be understandable
my engish isn't the best

my k3b opens slow l, i have a dvd burner and a reader.
if i remove k3b with the command sudo apt-get remove k3b restart my pc and install k3b in the terminal with sudo apt-get install k3b k3b opens normal and i can burn

if i close k3b and open again i have to do all above again. i disconnected my reader from the IDE cable and the problem is solved
i also changed the master/slave connection with burner/reader but it gave the same problem

any sugesstions

just came back from the store

burner and dvd rom were from the same brand (lite on). now the dvd rom is changed into LG and the problem is solved

could it be linux can't handle two of the same brands in one computer?

Definitely not - but it may be that they use the same resources and for some reason has been given the same memory addresses or some such - don't think so but stranger things have happened
