Mint 14 KDE Nadia and Nvidia driver problem

Post by cassius6 »

Hi

First of all, I'm new to linux, with no experiance at all. This is the second time I'm reinstalling KDE
on my ASUS U36SG because of the NVIDIA driver problem. I have tried out at least 10 different solutions for
how to install the driver properly but none of them works. Instead i end up with messages like

"You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server."

nvidia-xconfig command doesn't even work. My computer has the Optimus technology with both Intel and Nvidia Geforce 610M.

I even tried Bumblebee with no effect. Instead at the end, I end up with a screen resolution of 800*600 i think. My CPU is an Intel 5 core.

The latest attempt was as follows below but ending up with the same results described above :

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bumblebee/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install bumblebee bumblebee-nvidia

Nouveau was blacklisted as follows:

blacklist amd76x_edac
blacklist vga16fb
blacklist nouveau
blacklist rivafb
blacklist nvidiafb
blacklist rivatv

Hi cassius6 and welcome to Mint,
it would be helpful if you know to list which Nvidia card your machine is using.
then we may be able to help further.

Thanks kc1di
I'm gonna have to reinstall Mint KDE again and try it out.
Can I do that by running these commands? :

lspci -nn | grep -i vga

sudo lshw -C display

I am having the same issue, I have a fresh install of Mint 14, followed the same commands from above:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

and went to text teminal (CTRL+ALT+F1)
Sudo killall mdm (end x server)
sudo nvidia-xconfig

and now have the broken gnome looking, at 640x480 resolution (locked in the GUI), covering a square 3/5ths the size of my screen, centered.
in text only mode the full screen can be used.

My graphics card is GTX660M, Intel i7 processor.

Same here (mint 13 though) some recent update broke my system..
I have been trying reinstall of nvidia and all kind of configuation advices.. but still stuck.
It seems though that simply removing the xorg.conf file allows to get the normal resolution, but then GLX and Optirun and all the smart stuff does not work..
