Graphics drivers' installation

Post by soup2511 »

Hi,
I have a HP Pavillion DV6 notebook which has an AMD Radeon 6490M graphics card along with Intel HD 3000. Please can anyone point me how can I install graphics drivers for both these cards ? Switchable Graphics would be an added bonus. :D
Thanks :)

From the menu, select "Preferences" then "Software Sources". Video drivers are found on the "Additional Drivers" tab.

Thanks Alpha-Geek ... Ya I see now that the ATI driver is already enabled.
ATI has a software called catalyst control center which allows us to switch between the dedicated and integrated graphics.
Is it(or something equivalent) available on LInux ?

Catalyst 13.1 is available at AMD website.

the problem is there's some risk involved with installing it.

I have dual intel\ati graphics myself, and from my experience it only leads to fails at starting X-server.

in case that'll become your scenario as well, keep in mind that unistall files are stored at /usr/share/ati directory

Agreed there ....
I myself tried to do the same seeing this (http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu ... 7s_site.29) and yes, same result ...
X-Server stopped working ...
After which I had to reinstall Mint 14.

Does it work?

I dont want to try anything new right now .... It would be trouble if something happens just before the semester exams :?
