Nvidia GT440 - Cpanel problems.

I am a long time ATI fan, however someone sold his GT440 nvidia card to me for dirt cheap so i bought it, it was brand new in box sealed.

I have installed the drivers via software sources, the 310 drivers experimental. I have also tried the propriety drivers....

The problem i have is that the drivers show installed, but i cant find a nvidia Cpanel in my menu at all, the only thing i find is a nvidia X server settings which is completely useless ...

Can some please advise me what exactly to do or which driver to install to get a working cpanel please ?

What do you mean by a Cpanel? The NVIDIA X Server Settings program is the only control panel that NVIDIA on Linux has. What do you need to set in the configuration?

seriously that is the only panel ?

With ATI i could set everything, balance, colour, monitors, mipmap, 3D settings, vsync, anti aliasing, clock speeds, power management, resolution etc etc ...

All the nvidia panel shows is a few check boxes linking to files, nothing else, no settings nothing ...

Starting to feel like i got robbed and should have stayed with ATI.

It surely shouldn't show only a few checkboxes. I can also control many of the settings you mention. You can click some items in the left panel usually.

Maybe the driver is not working OK if you only get a few checkboxes. Please try running sudo nvidia-xconfig in terminal.

Screw this, im gonna reinstall ( another whole day wasted ... ) . Everyone all over these forums recommend Nvidia over ATI, yet i never had this crap with ATI, it always worked out the box....

I should have listened to my gutt and stayed with ATI.

You need to run sudo nvidia-xconfig sometimes with NVIDIA (you just did it without sudo which indeed does not work), after doing that this should all be sorted.

jacque@xxxxxxx ~ $ sudo nvidia-xconfig

New X configuration file written to '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'
Doesnt work.

That unable to open message is not a problem. And you need to reboot or logout for this to take effect.

If it still does not work then the driver is probably not properly installed. Please run inxi -Gx in terminal then and post the output.

its fine, i reinstalled and all is working as it should be, i think my onboard intel driver was conflicting with the nvidia driver.

Actually AMD is having more problems with half-disabled onboard Intel graphics usually. NVIDIA normally ignores Intel GPUs, AMD on the contrary tries to activate PowerXpress. Which works on a laptop but not on a desktop motherboard with onboard Intel graphics.

no, i meant i was using a PC without a dedicated GPU ( so onboard intel GPU that comes with Core I CPU, then went and bought a GPU and tried to install driver and that is when all hell broke loose. I think for some reason it wouldnt recognise new GPU and probly a driver issues between what was installed and what i was telling it is now installed. ). but reinstalled the Os and its working fine now. thnx for advise.
