DVD Boot disc not recognized

Trying to install either an Ubuntu or Windows OS from boot dvd. Bios is set to boot from dvd first, and I can hear dvd working, but then it quickly reverts to Linux logon boot options. Boot discs are fine.
I have both Maya and Cinnamon, because Software Manager would not run in Maya. I run Cinnamon exclusively, have a Lenovo 64 bit laptop purchased last fall.
Before I installed Maya from boot iso, I had no issues with installing from boot CD/DVD.
Suggestions?
