Macbook Pro and Linux Mint...

Postby inlinwetrust on Sat May 17, 2008 9:04 pm

Hey,

I've been delving into the linux world recently, and i've been looking at a few distros. This one has caught my eye. However, I am on a 2nd gen macbook pro. Is this supported? Up to what extent? I can handle little tweaks, but are there any glaring incompatibilities or errors? Thanks for your time.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Search the forum and you will find quite a few posts about macbook....
The problem has to do with how Mac handles the disk - that's different from PC (Win, Linux)
This topic covers it rather well

It's not impossible and not all that difficult if you have some knowledge, but you need to fiddle a bit

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Unfortunately, not all macs handle linux the same. I have a second-gen macbook pro, and it works much less with linux than other macs.

For example, I gave my friend with a macbook PCLinuxOS. He booted it, the resolution was right, and he was using 3D effects in no time. Then, I tried the CD on my computer. FAILURE. Wrong resolution, no effects, mouse completely messed up, no internet, etc....

It has to do with the Mac Book Pro having very unique hardware.
