File transfer speed

Three computers, W1 (Windows 7), W2 (Windows 7 Pro), L1 (Mint 14, Cinnamon) all connected via the same LAN, all about 6 feet from each other.

W2 has shared drive accessible by both W1 and L1. While on W1, copying gigabytes from W2 to L1 goes through W1 and transfers at about 10 MB/second. While on L1, copying gigabytes from W2 to L1 transfers at about 2 MB/second.

The speed should be either 10 MB/second or faster from W2 to L1. What is throttling L1 speed to the much lower rate?
