Maya - No sound after login with new graphics card

Hello.

I hear the login beep and the welcome sound just right after login, but then my sound systems malfunctions.

Each sound-related application (VLC player, Banshee, ...., Adobe Flash plugin) crashes or freezes.
In particular, I can not start the "Sound" menu in my control center. It crashes silently.

I suppose the error comes from a recent hardware change. I recently exchanged my old Nvidia graphics for a Sapphire HD 7750.
First I had the typical "AMD unsupported hardware" watermark, which vanished after I installed the post-release driver.

Maybe it is related to the new graphics card being HDMI. It seems to have its own audio device (??):

I just noted that in fact, the post-release driver for my graphic cards isn't even in use.
"This driver is activated but currently not in use."

My xorg.conf

Code: Select all

ONLY when there is no optional solution...

zerozero recommended this driver software project for me, it uses the driver the system thinks is best for you

i had this problem yesterday too and reinstalled Linux Mint and now using "Bumblebee 3.0" as driver even when Mesa is still shown active

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee

As far as I understand, Bumblebee is for nvidia, not for amd/ati.

Strangely,

Code: Select all

aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
does just hang, while

Code: Select all

sudo aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
Home directory /home/martin not ours.
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono
produces the desired audio output.
