keyboard lag/missing keystrokes on cinnamon

I'm using a Samsung RV515 notebook on Mint 14 Cinnamon. My keyboard will miss several keystrokes and not register when I enter them. Often it lags and hangs and does not respond and then will enter several of the same key. I haven't had this problem on other distros using this same notebook or when I boot into Windows. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?
