Sound Drivers Satellite P855-S5200

Postby harmonbc on Mon Mar 11, 2013 5:01 pm

Thank you in advance.

I am currently running Mint 14 KDE on a Toshiba Satellite P855-S5200. There is no audio and I have tried Googling and running most solutions and it has not worked. Can anyone give me some guidance on how to fix this/ some things to help debug this.

lspci seems to know that the drivers are there:
Code: Select all
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor DRAM Controller (rev 09)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)
00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB xHCI Host Controller (rev 04)
00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family MEI Controller #1 (rev 04)
00:1a.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 (rev 04)
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)

lshw output:
Code: Select all
*-multimedia
             description: Audio device
product: 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller
             vendor: Intel Corporation
             physical id: 1b
             bus info: pci@0000:00:1b.0
             version: 04
             width: 64 bits
             clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list
             configuration: driver=snd_hda_intel latency=0
             resources: irq:47 memory:f7f10000-f7f13fff

I found that this issue is a codec issue and I have moved it to the sound/codecs forum viewtopic.php?f=48&t=128524&p=698823#p698823 Thank You.

Please run this command in terminal and post the output:
Code: Select all
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec* | grep Codec

ALC280 is not a very common sound chip, it is probably new. It's supposed to be working from Mint 14 on. Probably I can post a how-to for upgrading the sound driver later today.

That would be great. I just switched from KDE to Cinnamon and it still has the same issue. The strange thing I noticed is that it only works for HDMI output. I do not have an option to use my internal speakers.

HDMI output is provided through a separate device, the "Intel PantherPoint HDMI". The Realtek chip is connected to the speakers, headphone, microphone etc.

You can install this package to get updated sound drivers: https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audi ... l1_all.deb

Maybe it works. I don't just know another fix for the ALC280 since I have not seen this sound chip before.

installing that package didn't do anything to help the sound.
