Everything on my screen is smearing to the right

I can't figure out what's causing this, but everything on my screen has speed lines - like they're all moving to the left really fast.

I'm using the fglrx driver, that could well be the reason - it's caused me enough trouble that I'm willing to blame anything and everything on it. I'm also using a fairly old CRT, could this be one sign that's it's finally giving up?

I don't know. Does anyone know what would cause this?

I think I can answer myself here: it's a problem with the monitor. I'm seeing it in Windows now too.

Ah well. Had the old girl for so long, but I suppose nothing lasts forever.
