Wireless WG111T not working

Postby manu311 on Wed Apr 03, 2013 2:16 am

Hi,

I'm new to mint (but am using gentoo and debian for years) so I know this is (probably) not mint specific but I'll ask here anyways (since the pc is running mint (14)).
The reason why I'm using mint is I think it's easy to use for newbies and so I installed a 64 bit version on my girlfriends pc (hopefully to erase windows xp someday ^^).

Anyways, since she has to use a wireless connection I need her wireless adapter to work so I tried the following:
1. Installing the debian/ubuntu packages for ar5523 - which worked but gave me a kernel panic after connecting to a network.
2. I tried to find 64 bit windows driver so I could use it with ndiswrapper since 32 bit doesn't work on 64 bit (I even tried that).
3. Since I'm not that bad with kernels I downloaded "-3.8.5-030805-generic_3.8.5-030805.201303281651" from somewhere (I think some-ubuntu-place) which worked fine too.
The reason I did the third try was because the ar5523 got merged in 3.8.x kernels.
So the problem in 3rd is (dmesg):
Code: Select all

Thinks that may be useful:
uname -r: 3.8.5-030805-generic
lsusb: Bus 001 Device 005: ID 1385:4250 Netgear, Inc WG111T

The Linux Mint is more or less completly clean, nothing "useless" installed or uninstalled.

I hope someone is able to help me :).
