USB safely unmount info

Postby BoneLord on Thu Jun 05, 2008 9:01 am

Hi all,
I've a question about my current mint installation Daryna.
I'm not sure of the correct process to follow in order to safely unmount my Digital Nikon Camera via USB.

To use the media I usually :

1) plug the Camera via USB
2) power on the Camera
3) use the media....
4) right click on the drive and click on 'unmount' option.

At this point I would turn off manually the camera, before unplug the usb cable. I try it, but the camera doesn't turn off.
The strange thing is that, if I click on 'mount' option on the drive (after moving to 'off' the camera switch),then the camera immediatley turn off by itself !

It is normal, or I can go on with that ? There is a way to turn off the camera manually before unplug the cable, not trying to 'mount' again the device ? (it sounds somewhat illogical to me...)

Thanks a lot

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I think it's simply because the camera is connected and gets some power through the USB cable. I would not worry

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
