EVDEV Driver no longer works [RESOLVED]

Postby TheGord on Wed Jun 11, 2008 9:32 am

Hi All,

I just installed the Main version of Elyssa, everything went smoothly. But I hit a snag when I changed my xorg.conf to support my Logitech G5 mouse.
Same config worked just fine in Darnya... but now on boot with this config the mouse laser is lit up but you can't move the pointer around.
I switched back to the default "mouse" driver for now. Is this new version of evdev broken? How would I go about downgrading if so? Or maybe my config is wrong.

Here it is.

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Configured Mouse"
Driver "evdev"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "Name" "Logitech USB Gaming Mouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "false"
EndSection

Thanks for any help!

Your
Section "InputDevice"
looks OK, but use
Driver "mouse"
I think it works with ZAxisMapping

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Hmph, I've tried using the "mouse" driver with ZAxisMapping during my experiments... still a no go for me.
Not sure why it's being so flaky. I've always had no troubles with my mouse config. Just slap in what works and go.
I might try a quick re-install of the OS to make sure that there wasn't any corruption during this past install... But I don't think it'll help.

If you think of anything else please let me know. So sad to lose buttons that I had working for years in linux now. I've still got my install disc for Daryna might head back to my happy place until I figure it out.

This is an area which is not all that easy to grasp
I wish the Xserver was split in one part about the screen and another about mouse etc...
I have a Logitech cordless combo (keyboard + mouse) in this computer and a MS laser mouse in my HP 530 laptop
The MS mouse works perfectly with all five buttons (but not the tilt of the scroll wheel)
Both computers use this
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Configured Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
EndSection

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Yah, it's the scroll wheel tilt & button I'm experiencing problems with right now. The thumb button seems to be working just fine.
Well hopefully someone else out there is having the same troubles.
I've tried pointing it towards /dev/mice and even using the ImPS/2 protocol.
Going to try a USB to PS2 adapter tomorrow.
I'll post again if I find a solution.

Eureka!
I did some more snooping around and got the buttons to work again!
I had to enter this line in my config

Option "Device" "/dev/input/event3"

I got "mouse03" from the event handler via "cat /proc/bus/input/devices" in the terminal
I read somewhere that without specifying the device path the evdev driver can crap out.

Now to just remap a few buttons with xmodmap and btnx and I'm back and running again.

w00t! :D
