Elyssa hangs

Post by -al- »

Right having got elyssa to finally install on my laptop - I had to format in Ext2 instead of Ext3, as for some reason it wouldnt boot the GUI in Ext3 just busybox - im encountering a rather annoying problem. It seems that for some reason my desktop will cease to respond I can move the mouse no problem but nothing will respond to mouse clicks or keyboard shortcuts and im forced to crash the laptop, invariably forcing a manual fsck which in turn results in my installation being corrupted.

Any clues as to whats causing this?, its gotta be hardware related that i know but would be helpful if anyone has any ideas to how i could resolve this, any ideas welcome, the laptop is a test machine so i can try anything.

problem is i cant get back into the system to read the logs, after a manual fsck my system is dead in the water, only a reinstall will work, thank god for APTon CD or i woiuld have exceeded my DL cap for this month already!

EDIT:

It only seems to happen with the synaptic pacakge manager, and with mint update. So something is causing the system to lock when im installing programs/updates, which obviuously means they are corrupted by the crash
