automount sony mp3 4 GB

Postby skintythe1andonly on Tue Jun 24, 2008 7:13 pm

Hi

I am new to linux mint (and linux in general), Ive recently changed from Ubuntu due to the nice GUI. The only problem I have encountered is mounting my
Sony NWZA816B MP3 player. In Ubuntu (hardy) it automounted, and worked perfectly.

In linux mint, the player is detected as seen when i run

Code: Select all
 ls /dev/disk/by-label -lah

it returns

Code: Select all
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root  60 2008-06-24 23:28 .
drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 120 2008-06-24 23:28 ..
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  10 2008-06-24 23:28 WALKMAN -> ../../sdc1

In Gnome under ->Computer a drive is detected and appears as a USB drive, however when you click on it, it says that it is unable to mount it.

I have been able to mount the drive using pmount, however i would like to have it automount, plus it still leaves that USB Drive present as i usually have to mount it with a different name

Any Suggestions??

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

You've waited a bit for an answer
It should automount...
Does other USB disks/sticks automount
I have half a solution for you and when I know if other automounts or not I can try to make it a whole solution

I also cannot mount my Sony Walkman. Would be grateful for a solution that enables the ability to transfer files to/from the Walkman.

Everything else automounts. I use a 4Gb USB key which automounts no problem. I have been able mount (sort of) and sync music onto it using MTP in Rhythmbox. I cannot access other files i may have saved on the device though without mounting it with pmount. It isnt the end of the world but as the device can display picutures and videos, having it automount only using MTP can be kind of annoying, as i cannot transfoer those files accross using this method.

yes i have managed to mount it using pmount. It does however leave another file system which you cannot go into on the system as well as my my mp3 device i have mounted.

This seems to be a known issue though in the upgrade from gutsy to hardy
