I used Envy to install the restricted drivers for my ATI card. Glxgears showed 12628 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2525.474 FPS with a lot of flickering. Google Earth flickers. Can I correct this?

Ello there! Was googling the 2400 and found this post and thought id reply

My problems were similar but with Ubuntu. I cant remember which ones worked best between ATI's own drivers or the Open source ones, but with one of them anything with 3d graphics flickerd. From Google earth to secound life. Nexuiz to breakout. The flickering did always stop when i turned of desktop effects. I havent used Linux Mint yet (hoping to soon ) but if theres a way of turning of desktop effects like Compiz try that and see if things still flicker.

I had teh same issue with flickering, on two different ATI cards (X1950 and 2400)
Hopefully, I did not have this when using Ubuntu 7.10 so I just copied the xorg.conf from my 7.10 disk to Mint 5 and no more flickering BUT no compiz.
As I'm not a compiz fan, my 3D issue is solved.
I can post the xorg.conf which is working is you wish
