New Alsa 1.0.17 solves MANY Intel HDA sound problems

Postby CavalierBob on Tue Jul 29, 2008 2:51 am

How do we formally request a backport into Mint of this one?

I just did a new install of Elyssa tonight and this Intel HDA bug has bit me. I have absolutely no sound at all.

Some background:

1) Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 motherboard

2) Realtek ALC889A codec

3) lspci shows the following for my audio controller:

Code: Select all
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)

Long list of what has been fixed in this new release:

Code: Select all
http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com/msg936666.html

Of importance to me in this new release:

Code: Select all
hda - Fix ALC889A codec support

Thanks for any suggestions on how to get this moving!

I don't know, I was asking how we can get a backport Husse. My lack of sound magically fixed itself, but the volume is low which is (apparently) another trademark of problems the current ALSA can have with Intel HDA sound.

In the Launchpad bug report, the maintainer states the only way to bring these fixes in is to backport them individually, as a wholesale backport of the whole package would cause breakage.
