Hi again,

I bought a Edimax EW-7128G PCI LAN wireless card and need assistance in getting it set up, I bought it on the knowledge of knowing it works well with LM on previous forum support (I currently have wired connection but am looking at going wireless as I'm placing the PC in a different room from the phone socket & modem).

I'm using Elyssa & when I type lspci the PC details come up as:

I assume it's the part between the asterisks is my new card (& not the built in LAN socket on my mobo)
however my card has two lights on the back and none are on (link & tx/rx)
I think I've installed ndsiwrapper and then gone to control centre / system / windows wireless adapter and tried to install the *.inf file from the CD ROM however this comes up as an error while installing.

I've gone to serial monkey.com and downloaded the correct file for it rt2500-1.1.0-b4.tar.gz but am at a loss on how to install *.tar.gz files (I'm used to *.deb & got told they're the ones to look out for LM installations)

I've gone to the package manager and installed rt2500-source which I believe is the above file just through the package manager, however when I click on wired network connection, edit wireless networks I cannot add anything.

So this is what I've done so far and am now at a loss.... so any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

P.S. on another note I've also found out that my HD is a PATA connected into a SATA socket via an adapter I bought off eBay, while it works fine, it does hang either by the whole computer freezing or by the whole thing freezing with the caps lock and scroll lock lights flashing. This happens randomly and is a pain in the ass, but is easily resolved when I have some cash by buying a new SATA HD, but just for info if other people have similar issues with LM, it's not the OS, it' could well be your cheap adapter card!

You assume wrong - that is the built in LAN - takes a while before we get gigabit wifi
I can't see any wifi device in that list
Are you sure that the pci card is inserted correctly? (I suppose we are talking about a desktop here)

) my PC just does not recognise the card, I've sent an email to MSI to ask if they have any knowledge if the card is compatible or not with their mobo, they replied and said they have nothing on record to say otherwise. I emailed Edimax and am awaiting confirmation from them.
(However I do think that at the very least the lights should come on when I turn the PC on to tell you it's working and it doesn't do that, so I'm kind of guessing the card is dead - TBC).

My PC I built myself so I know that the card is installed correctly, I also have a firewire card in one of the other PCI slots and this is recognised by 'lspci' in the terminal, I've tried all three PCI slots on my mobo and the firewire card is recognised in all the slots, the LAN card is not.

I'll keep the forum posted with an outcome...

Seems like a DOA

Update on the card, I've tried it in a Windows XP set up and installed the software and neither the hardware or software on that can find or recognise the card so it's return to dabs.com for a replacement.
I'll keep you posted on the replacement card I've ordered, hopefully if it's working I shouldn't have too many troubles in installing it using the wiki guide

Returned card to DABS.com and replaced it for a new card, all is working fine out the box, as it should! All that trouble for a DOA!
