[FIXED] Keyboard fails when using Fn and right/left arrow

Sort of two issues in one.

Upon booting into the live CD of Elyssa 5 Main R1, my laptop screen automatically goes to the lowest brightness setting. Well, if I use Function and right arrow key to brighten the screen before I install, the keyboard fails immediately after brightening the screen. I cannot type into the install prompts or even type into konsole.

1. keyboard fails
2. brightness always dims completely upon boot (to live cd or hdd install)

This is a fresh install, just booted from install. No updates applied yet.

I had previously installed all available updates, and several apps I needed and still had the screen problem.

Acer Aspire 7720 (17 inch widescreen)
Memory 2GB
Intel Core 2 Duo
Available disk space 211.8 GB

I think this is related to the video card - and you did not post that one
Please run lspci and post the result
Is this a brand new laptop?
Could be a "too new" Intel graphics card

The laptop is about 6 months old or so.

Sorry for the delay. It seems to have been fixed in Elyssa 5 XFCE beta 025 which is what I'm now using, or XFCE never had that problem. Previously I was using Gnome.

Looking back at the original post, the backlight still blanks out upon initializing login screen but I have downloaded xbacklight and set that to run at startup
xbacklight -set 100

So far that is fixed the majority of the backlight dimming. Occasionally when I run VMware player or virtualbox upon initializing the vmx/iso and bringing up the virtual screen it will dim but using the Fn keystrokes does not hinder usability anymore.
