I have the atheros AR5007EG Wireless card in my Fujitsu Siemens V5535 notebook. Linuxmint does not recognize it.

I have found that people on ubuntuforums have managed to get this to work in ubuntu. since linuxmint is based on ubuntu it should also be able to support it.

I have linuxmint 5.

an any1 plz help me install the wireless driver.

Im also a noob at linux so a little help would be appreciated :)

thx for the reply kirsch92

so what ur saying is that all i should do is open the terminal and write :

Code: Select all

lspci
and it should start working??
I chose to just disable the HAL and Atheros support under the restricted drivers manager
also i cannot find this option for HAL drivers, so i cant disable them.. what does HAL stand for anyways?

thanks a lot krisch92, it works perfectly now :)

my mint is finally online :)

but from the guide i dont understand this part
Keep in mind that every time the Kernel gets updated you have to run these commands again:

sudo apt-get update && sudo aptitude install build-essential

Now run:

make clean

make

sudo make install

sudo modprobe ath_pci

sudo modprobe wlan_scan_sta

Off course in the madwifi folder. You might want to move the folder to your home folder because we’ll need it again after a Kernel update.

To get your wireless back up that is until they fix the problem in the Kernel and wireless works after restarting with the new Kernel.

Don’t be shy let us know in the comments below if the solution worked or not(in that case I can assist you and get it to work) .
i dont get it, so with every minor update i have to do this all over again??

I used the Madberry instructions to configure my husband's Atheros AR5007EG card successfully. (He then called me his Linux guru  )
