Installing ATi 8.8 drivers

im still really new to linux and how to compile drivers and such and to install them. I downloaded the latest release "elysa" and im trying to install the 8.8 drivers for my 4850. Can anyone please tell me how to go about doing this?

come on guys, its really frustrating now, everytime i reboot or log out, it defaults to 800x600 and i cant make it any bigger.

Are you sure you really need 8.8, wouldn't 8.6 suffice? If it's ok just run the application called EnvyNg included in your Mint installation, the rest should be obvious. If you really need 8.8 then you can just try double clicking on the .run file you've downloaded, for me the ATI installer worked ok. If it does not go to Ubuntu wiki and search for graphic driver installation, there's a nice guide to it there, and in this respect MInt and Ubuntu are 100% the same. :)
