iPod with Amarok help please!

Postby r1bby on Wed Aug 27, 2008 5:44 pm

Hi all,

I've tried to get my Amarok to speak to my iPod but I'm at a dead end, can anyone help?
Firstly my F1 for the Help Centre comes up as could not launch the help centre, could not find service,
so if anyone knows how to find/restore my help centre hopefully I can have a look in there for an answer to the below questions. I've tried the Amarok forum, but have found nothing there, nor their wiki so am at a loss to find an answer.

I am using LM Elyssa, with Amarok 1.4.9.1 (Using KDE 3.5.9)
I have a iPod 5g 80gb & a 2gb shuffle clip neither work,
the lsusb & fs in the terminal recognise the hardware
when connected, Rhythmbox recognises the iPod's and autoloads with the playlists etc everything is good there and I can play the songs, however I find Rhythmbox is not as good for Amarok with my 7000+ songs, and Amarok is similar to use like iTunes.

when I select my settings as an apple ipod player nothing is recognised,
when I select my settings as a generic audio player,
it comes up as connected yet nothing comes up in the devices windows
however it disconnects & unmounts it from my PC
I think I am so close, yet so far....

If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks.
Regards,
Rob

A-ha! as luck would have it, I have managed to sync my iPod with Amarok,
I followed these instructions:

http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/07/04/ho ... in-ubuntu/

point to add was when adding a media device, give it a name but don't enter a mount point, leave it blank.
(my mistake was to add details of the mount point from lsusb)

I then needed to access the iPod from the desktop, ipod_control/itunes/ and remove 'ipod lock'
this then allows me to sync with Amarok,
which leaves me with three issues;

one, I seem to have to remove the ipod lock every time I need to sync, surely this is wrong & I shouldn't have to, is there a way around it?
two, how do I add the help handbook found on F1?
three, how do I select Amarok to automatically open when my iPod is linked to my PC as following the details on the above link it shows me to goto system/preferences/removable drives and media / & then select multimedia / portable music players,
however in Mint (opposed to Ubuntu which are what the instructions are for) there is not multimedia / portable music players tab, where has it moved to?

Rob
