I Cannot Turn my Volume up or down

I installed Linux Mint Elyssa On my gateway FX. Anways, when i move the volume up or down the volume bar appears on screen and it shows that it is going up and down yet there is no change in the sound coming out of my computer. Can anybody help?

Are you referring to the physical volume controls?

If so, mine (an HP) does this too - but I found out that it is working, though only with the headphone jack. I can adjust the system volume with in a menu.

I presume there's a simple way to set it to control the speakers and the headphones, but I don't know it.

Im running main edition revision 1 elyssa. Woah and same thing kaddath seeker said. i put in head phone and volume control effects it.

There are other options along this line - search for "alsa base" in the forum (a space not a - between the two)

maybe this can help. when i go to volume control preferences, if i choose master under hda intel, when i move sound up and down with the physical control, the bar appears in the center of the screen is affected and the volume in the lower right corner is also affected. All of this only changes sound volume for headphones(speakers retain volume). When i choose PCM instead of master under Hda intel, when i physically move volume the bar appears in center of screen and is affected yet the pcm volume in lower right doesnt change. Basically how heck do i make it so when i physically change volume it changes the pcm because those are my speakers?
