Dell Inspiron LED cycles on/off after Ctrl/CapsLock swap

On my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1501), I configured a keyboard Control/Capslock swap using Control Center and now the CapsLock LED still turns on/off every time I hit the new "Control" key (former CapsLock). This is very annoying, as I use WordStar-style control-key combinations in OpenOffice. Any way to fix this irksome behavior?

Perhaps this is hardcoded in hardware?
