X64 RC1 resolution problem solved

Post by alan2273 »

I am using a 17" LG1720B monitor with an analog connection, the graphics card is a Nvidia 7600Gt.
I cannot get above 800x600, despite editing the xorg.conf file.
Here is the file, what am I missing.

# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder58) Thu Jul 17 18:39:00 PDT 2008

# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by failsafeDexconf, using
# values from the debconf database and some overrides to use vesa mode.
#
# You should use dexconf or another such tool for creating a "real" xorg.conf
# For example:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

There is something seriously wrong with that xorg.conf
Only one monitor but two Section Device and you are using the "vesa" driver
It should look something like this

Code: Select all

# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Section "Screen"
	Identifier	"Default Screen"
	Monitor "Configured Monitor"
	Device "Configured Video Device"
	Defaultdepth	24
EndSection

Section "Device"
	Identifier	"Configured Video Device"
	Option "VideoOverlay"	"on"
	Option "OpenGLOverlay"	"off"
	Driver "fglrx"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier	"Generic Keyboard"
	Driver "kbd"
	Option "XkbRules"	"xorg"
	Option "XkbModel"	"pc105"
	Option "XkbLayout"	"se"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
	Identifier	"Configured Mouse"
	Driver "mouse"
	Option "CorePointer"
	Option "Emulate3Buttons"	"true"
EndSection

Section "ServerLayout"
	Identifier	"Default Layout"
  screen "Default Screen"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
	Identifier	"Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Extensions"
	Option "Composite"	"Enable"
EndSection
You may not need Section "Extensions"
